ILLICIT DRUG ADDICTION TRUTHS

Well known Australian boxer Anthony Mundine has recently launched a new anti drug campaign – KO to Drugs.

As part of the campaign which received wide media coverage in early February 2008 one high profile sportsperson still dealing with their drug addiction made some truthful admissions like-

Rehabilitation requires his full attention every minute of every day.

You cannot party hard and still be a professional athlete.

You don’t choose a drug problem it chooses you.

An important part of drug rehabilitation is accepting your responsibilities.

The Drug Advisory Council of Australia Comments

In Australia illicit drug rehabilitation needs to come up to worlds best practice because some addicted high profile people have sought rehabilitation from overseas.

High profile Australians can play a positive role in preventing vulnerable youths from commencing illicit drug use either by their position or by their bad experiences.

The high illicit drug use in Australia has the potential for escalating health problems of young adults calling for higher health and mental health outlays.

Illicit drug use is preventable so future health problems are also preventable which is why we need early intervention programs to get young adults off illicit drugs.

Lets ditch harm minimization for what works.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
