DRUGS CRIME LINK EXPOSED

Two recent disclosures have highlighted the link between criminal groups and illicit drugs-

1. In Australia, the Australian Financial Review defence conference 2009 was advised by the Australian Crime Commission that organised crime is as bad as terrorism.

The major crime activities are supplying illicit drugs and a significant proportion if the money is laundered to overseas criminal syndicates.

The Australian Federal Police advised that organized crime undermines the prosperity of countries overseas.

2. In The Netherlands, the government has admitted that criminals have control over cannabis cultivation.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-

These reports confirm other recent reports from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime that criminal and terrorist involvement in illicit drug production is directing massive sums to them.

The new head of the Office of Drug Control Policy of the U.S. Obama administration will concentrate on reducing demand for drugs by referring non violent offenders into rehabilitation.

Australia encourages the criminal involvement in illicit drug money laundering by its very high demand for illicit drugs.

By reducing the demand for illicit drugs, Australia can assist international policing by cutting off funds to criminal syndicates.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.   35/2009
