WORLDS LARGEST ECSTASY BUST

The Australian Federal Police and Australian Customs have made the world’s single largest seizure of ecstasy recently.

The ecstasy haul was 4.4 tonnes with an estimated street value of $440 million.

This seizure is larger than the previous world record ecstasy bust in June 2007 also in Australia.

The ecstasy seizure this year follows a 150 kilogram seizure of cocaine last month.

Sophisticated and well organized criminal syndicates are behind these illicit drug imports.

The Drug Advisory Council of Australia comments-

The United Nations revealed that Australians are easily the world’s biggest users of ecstasy per head of population.

This high ecstasy demand is fuelling the supply of ecstasy and funding organized criminals in Australia and internationally.

Ecstasy use causes death, brain damage, depression, anxiety, paranoia, mood swings, sleeplessness and memory loss in users.

Australian drug policy should have at its core; court ordered and supervised detoxification and rehabilitation programs that substantially reduce the number of Australians using ecstasy.

Australia NEEDS a comprehensive and effective NATIONAL illicit drug prevention and rehabilitation system that REDUCES demand.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
