DRUG DROUGHT CUTS CRIME

A report from the Australian Institute of Criminology has detailed a drop in homicide, robbery, burglary and car theft in the three years to 2004.

Officials at the Institute have highlighted a likely link between the drop in crime in Australia and a HEROIN drought at that time.

US OUTLAWS SPEED & ICE CHEMICALS

The United States has recently passed the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act that will remove chemicals from being used to manufacture illicit party drugs.

Methamphetamine is a synthetic amphetamine used at parties and clubs with street names of SPEED, CRYSTAL METH, ICE or CRACK.

These party drugs are an epidemic in the USA.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA COMMENTS-

Like the USA, illicit drugs are impacting Australia as well.

Illicit drug use has an impact on rates of crime so that restriction in the supply of drugs can reduce crimes.

Whilst reductions in established illicit drugs like HEROIN are having some impact, party drugs that do not need to be injected are increasing.

Unlike the USA, Australia is not taking any measures to reduce the supply of chemicals that are used to make drugs like SPEED and ICE.

ICE is a new party drug 20 times more powerful than AMPHETAMINES and is one of the most addictive drugs known.

Australia needs to reduce the demand for party drugs like ICE by providing detoxification and rehabilitation programs for users.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-
More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
