INJECTING HEROIN INCREASES HEPATITIS C

The Australian Law Reform Drug Foundation that support weaker policies for illicit drugs have now admitted that Australia has been going backwards with hepatitis C prevention in recent years.

They now admit that new infections of hepatitis C are increasing rapidly  from an estimated 11000 in 1997 to 16000 in 2001.

They admit that about 90% of these new infections occur among injecting drug users.

They admit existing “prevention” strategies of education, syringe distribution and drug treatment (what ever that means) are NOT working.

They suggest we need cheaper and purer heroin.

They suggest that drug users inhale heroin vapour instead of injecting.

COMMENT

Those advocating cheaper, purer and inhalation of heroin vapor instead of injecting heroin are WRONG.

The ONLY way to reduce the number of cases of hepatitis C is to reduce the number of heroin users.

The drug tolerance policies of harm minimization are a massive failure.

These policies lead to more drug use and more hepatitis C.

This increased drug use leads to more harm minimization policies that are more dangerous.

We need policies that ELIMINATE harm and help heroin users.

We support-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that get heroin users drug free.

Court ordered detoxification & rehabilitation programs.

Less heroin users

Less drug pushers and drug related crimes.
