DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-
The criminal networks behind the ecstasy supply know that Australians are more inclined to take a tablet than inject an illicit drug.
Australia’s high demand for illicit drugs makes us a target for criminal activity.
Illicit drug use can never be treated as a health issue as the increasing impact involves many other community costs.
Ecstasy users can never be sure of what is in the tablet because some known poisons in ecstasy tablets have led to deaths.
As well as deaths, ecstasy causes aggression, anger, anxiety, brain damage, miscarriage, addiction of unborn babies, hallucinations, increased blood pressure and heart attacks.
A major reason to reduce ecstasy demand is to cut off the funds to organized criminals.
Compulsory diversion of identified ecstasy users into detoxification and rehabilitation is world’s best practice to reduce demand.
THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-
More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
