New Drug Leads To Hospitalisation

The latest illicit drug mephedrone commonly known as miaow miaow or 4MMC is leading users to be hospitalized.

Media reports throughout Australia relate to miaow miaow users being sent into a trance like state and having to be hospitalized for days on end.

The drug is being sold for as low as $2 per tablet at nightclubs and raves making it attractive and available to a wide range of users.

Miaow miaow has led to deaths overseas.

Because of the recent availability of miaow miaow there is little research on the long term brain damage to users but harms include convulsions, breathing difficulties, nose bleeds, depression, psychosis and the trance like effects.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-

The availability of this new illicit drug proves that the drug using culture is willing to try anything new without any knowledge of the short or long term impacts on users being known.

Miaow miaow users testify that they were badly affected by the drug and warn others never to try this drug.

Medical personal testify that users needed the hospitalization in order to protect the users from the trauma they were experiencing.

Miaow miaow is being imported from overseas with border protection authorities seizing the drug in Victoria and NSW.

Hospitalised users should be directed into detoxification and then rehabilitation rather than discharged back into the drug using culture which caused the use and hospitalization.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
