BRACKS REJECTS INJECTING ROOMS
The Victorian Premier Steve Bracks has rejected injecting rooms as a solution to the illicit drug crisis in Victoria.
Victoria explicitly rejected injecting rooms when legislation for the introduction was rejected in the Victorian Legislative Council.
The Melbourne Herald Sun editorial supported the Premier and said the Victorian public does not want to revisit this controversial proposal.
The Herald Sun described injecting rooms as ‘government sponsored drug use”.

DACA Comment-
The Labor government in the A.C.T. has also rejected injecting rooms.
Providing injecting rooms, syringes and heroin maintenance programs using harm minimisation leads to more heroin deaths.
Reducing demand for illicit drugs also reduces drug money going to international criminals and terrorists that control the heroin trade.
Providing detoxification and rehabilitation to illicit drug users to get them off drugs is the only proven way of preventing deaths.
The use of illicit drugs in the last year by teenagers must be reduced from the present 28% to world’s best practice of 3% by 2005.
There must be an annual national survey of Australian teenagers illicit drug use and the results and trends reported to every Parliament.
More detoxification & rehabilitation that get illicit users drug free.
More truthful information about the harm of all illicit drugs.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation programs.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
