MUNICIPALITIES MUST NOT SUPPORT INJECTING ROOMS

 

Municipal councils should not support heroin injecting rooms in their community because –

 

• Injecting rooms legalize harmful drug taking
• Injecting rooms legalize drug pushing
• Overseas experience shows injecting rooms increase the number of drug pushers in the local community
• Legalized drug pushing will make your community a target for pushers who will swarm around injecting rooms free of police harassment
• Drug pushers will compete aggressively and violently for addict’s business near injecting rooms
• There will be more drug addicts in your community as injecting rooms maintain addicts on mind altering drugs
• As addicts need money for heroin they will commit crimes in your local community in order to buy heroin from the local pushers
• Addicts want to steal goods, get the money, buy drugs and shoot up as soon as possible so injecting rooms will localize these activities
• As many street prostitutes are heroin addicts, injecting rooms will attract prostitution activity to your community
• Addicts will use the local community to shoot up when they are refused entry, because they are too young or they behave badly at the injecting room
• Coroners statistics show that 93% of heroin deaths in Victoria involved other drugs as well as heroin, these other drugs will be pushed around local injecting rooms
• As addicts will want to live near injecting rooms, your municipality will be attractive to addicts residential havens
• Government experts expect heroin deaths to continue increasing even with injecting rooms so heroin deaths will be a feature of your community
• When injecting rooms close for the night addicts will then use the community facilities to buy drugs from pushers and shoot up

 

 

We demand -

 Less addicts not more

Don’t legalize drug pushing

Less crime not more

Taxes for injecting rooms must be used to get addicts drug free

More detoxification & effective rehabilitation programs

Prisons & youth centers must get addicts drug free
