Australia is a Drug Target

One of Western Australia’s Assistant Police Commissioners has publicly admitted that Australia is a target for illicit drugs.

He admitted that bikies and organized crime syndicates smuggle precursor ingredients into Australia because our laws were weaker than those in Asia.

ICE (methamphetamine) is then produced in laboratories using the ingredients which are sold to Australian drug users.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-

This admission supports the reports of the Australian Crime Commission that our high demand for illicit drugs makes Australia a target for international criminal gangs.

Reducing demand for illicit drugs like ICE is critical to reducing the targeting of Australia by criminals.

ICE users are at risk of drug induced psychosis which may lead to aggressive and violent behaviour, damaged teeth and gums, skin lesions, stroke, panic attacks, anxiety and severe depression. (Federal Minister for Health & Aging media release 19 April 2009)

ICE users need help to get them free of the violence, psychosis, aggression, anxiety and depression as these cause major costs to the Australian public health system.

This facilitation of international crime and the personal impact of ICE on users is a key reason for reducing demand for illicit drugs.

Diversion into effective court supervised early intervention drug rehabilitation that leads to a drug free life for those detected using illicit drugs must be used to reduce the demand.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
