Drug Crime Links

A combined illicit drug operation involving the Australian Crime Commission, Victorian police, NSW police, Austrac and the Australian Federal Police has exposed an international drug importing syndicate.

This crime syndicate involved bikie gangs in Sydney and Melbourne, Chinese triads, port workers, Italian criminals and corrupt officials.

Ecstasy, heroin and ICE were the main drugs imported into Australia with money laundering used to repatriate drug funds back overseas.

Police sources claim little more than 10 to 15 per cent of illicit drugs being imported into Australia were detected.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-

Australia is clearly a target for illicit drugs because of our high demand.

To assist Australian border protection and policing agencies we need to REDUCE demand for illicit drugs.

Policies that REDUCE demand and divert illicit drug users into rehabilitation that produce abstinence from future use are PROVEN by international experience to REDUCE supply of illicit drugs.

Only reduced demand by rehabilitation will starve international criminals of funds from illicit drugs.

As well reduced demand will starve Australian criminals of drug money.

Court ordered and supervised illicit drug orders should be used to divert all identified illicit drug users into rehabilitation.

Australia is obliged by International treaties to reduce demand for illicit drugs in order to assist overseas authorities to stop illicit drug production.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
