Drug Driving Death

A NSW couple lost their baby after a motorist who was allegedly high on drugs ran into the mother near her home on Christmas day last year.

This incident has sparked a review of the NSW laws involving the deaths of unborn babies.

The NSW Premier and state Attorney General have initiated the review.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-

Whilst this review is important it highlights the impact of drug driving and its consequences.

The incident of drug driving and the deaths, injuries and trauma to families has been highlighted many times in the past.

Drivers under the influence of illicit drugs (and other drugs) are clearly affected by the drugs.

But how culpable are they?

If the driver high on illicit drugs had used the injecting room funded by the government in Sydney, to what extent is the government culpable?

If the driver high on illicit drugs had used a syringe funded by the government, to what extent is the government culpable?

The only logical solution to illicit drug use is to treat the problems and not facilitate them.

Instead of providing assistance to continue to use illicit drugs governments can play a major part in improving road safety by diverting illicit drug users into detoxification then rehabilitation.

By dealing with the illicit drug use and assisting users to get free of drug use our roads are made safer.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
