Toxic Drug Laboratories

New South Wales police have located a record number of illicit drug laboratories used to manufacture drugs like speed, ecstasy and ICE.

The properties that are used for illicit drug manufacture are contaminated for years with toxins that permeate the walls and carpets.

These toxins are carcinogenic likely to cause cancer to users of the properties after the laboratories have been closed down.

New South Wales police closed 96 laboratories in 2010, 67 in 2009 and 55 in 2008.

The greatest numbers were found around Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Tweed Heads, Green Valley, Holroyd and Sydney’s North Shore.

Police are pushing for mandatory reporting of decongestants sold in pharmacies used to manufacture the drugs rather than the voluntary reporting at present.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-

These illicit drug laboratories are in EVERY state in Australia and are being funded by the extreme demand for illicit drugs at this time.

The recent Australian Crime Commission report highlights the increasing number of drug laboratories being located and warned of the high demand funding the criminal gangs behind the drug manufacture.

Innocent property owners or tenants that use these properties after a drug laboratory has been closed are at risk of cancer from the toxins.

This is another reason for all Australian governments to keep to their international obligations by reducing demand for illicit drugs.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
