Drug Use Permanent

The NSW government has decided to make the Kings Cross injecting room permanent.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-

Australia's ONLY injecting room will maintain drug maintenance, facilitate high drug demand and not assist thousands of users to quit.

Australia's other states and territories have not supported injecting rooms because drug maintenance does not work.

Australia is obliged by International treaties to reduce demand for illicit drugs which has benefits for drugs users and the wider community.

World's best practice has shown that court ordered and supervised illicit drug rehabilitation does reduce demand and helps users to quit.

Who gets the money from the illicit drugs used in injecting rooms?

Where do we think the illicit drugs that are used in injecting rooms come from?

International drug criminals are targeting Australia because of our support for drug maintenance and our high demand.

Other countries like Canada are considering closing injecting rooms because they do not work nor reduce demand nor get users off drugs.

Australia's high demand for illicit drugs undermines the efforts of other countries to stop illicit drug production or distribution.

The taxpayers funds used in drug maintenance would be more effective if diverted into drug rehabilitation that got users free of drug use.

Injecting rooms supporting high drug use compound problems of Australian federal agencies that are trying to protect our borders and stop money the laundering of drug money.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
