(The book Drug Affliction is available at www.amazon.co.uk)
DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-
The clear message is that Australia cannot go it alone on drug policy and must work with other nations and the United Nations to reduce demand for illicit drugs by reducing the number of illicit drug users.
Widespread demand for and use of illicit drugs in Australia is damaging users and will massively increase demand for health services in particular mental health services in perpetuity.
The high demand will lead to more addictions which will cost governments in dealing with the high consequences of the addictions.
Illicit drug addiction is a preventable community problem.
Australian court ordered and supervised detoxification and rehabilitation programs are now ESSENTIAL.
Australia NEEDS a clear commitment to reduce the demand for illicit drugs and the number of illicit drug users to reduce the record quantities of drugs being imported.
Australia NEEDS a comprehensive NATIONAL early intervention prevention and rehabilitation system that REDUCES demand.
Australia NEEDS national targets to substantially reduce the number of illicit drug users.
THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-
More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
