Identified Drug Users Need Rehabilitation

Illicit drug users can be identified by-

Some employers and job requirements mandate drug free conditions Eg airline pilots, tanker drivers, police officers, etc so drug use identification and testing is used.

The purpose of these drug use tests is to ensure a safe environment for others in the community so our Council supports comprehensive drug use tests that identify drug users.

However, identification of illicit drug use must be followed up effective detoxification and rehabilitation to ensure drug use ceases or the identification is ineffective.

A key policy objective of illicit drug use identification must be to assist drug users to cease drug use.

Australia is a high illicit drug using nation and the number of illicit drug users must be substantially reduced otherwise the harm of drug use will continue to be high.

Mandated detoxification and rehabilitation to get identified drug users free from drug use is cost effective in reducing the high costs for the users and the community as well.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
