New Drug Policy for the UK
The Home Office of the United Kingdom has announced a new approach to illicit drugs including-
Preventing the first use of illicit drugs.
Offer every support for illicit drug users to choose recovery and a way out of addiction.
Abandoning the previous approach of harm reduction.
Setting up a new national crime agency to lead the fight against organized crime that is funded by illicit drugs.
A focus of reducing of drug related crime.
Bearing down relentlessly on those invoved in the drug trade.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-
Our council supports the general approach of the new United Kingdom government.
In particular the focus of supporting people to live a drug free life.
Early intervention drug use prevention is critical to reduce the demand.
Diversion into effective early intervention rehabilitation that leads to a drug free life for those detected using illicit drugs is also critical to reduce the demand.
Court directed and supervised detoxification and rehabilitation is world’s best practice and is proven to reduce illicit drug demand.
Illicit drug demand reduction is the key policy objective for Australian authorities required by our international agreements.
