No To Legal Drugs
The latest Australian national drug survey shows that most Australians oppose legal illicit drugs.
Only the attitudes of the 12 per cent of Australians that had used an illicit drug during the past year were supportive of legal drugs and opposed the reducing the harm of illicit drugs.
This means that the overwhelming majority of Australians did not tolerate illicit drug use.
Cannabis is the most used and tolerated illicit drug in Australia.
Psychological distress, diagnosis and treatment for mental illness are highest among recent users of ICE, amphetamines, ecstasy, cannabis and cocaine.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-
Clearly this survey of community attitudes shows that recent drug users do not understand the harm of illicit drug use.
Members of the Australian community that are not regular illicit drug users oppose legal illicit drugs and regular drug use and support policies that help users get off drugs.
With the admission of psychological distress and mental illness associated all the commonly used illicit drugs there needs to be more drug rehabilitation that gets users free of drugs.
As most of the recent illicit drug users are in their twenties the target for drug rehabilitation should be this age group.
Court ordered and supervised drug detoxification and rehabilitation is world’s best practice in reducing the number of drug users.
THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-
More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
