USA Backs Sweden and United Nations Drug Policy
The United States key drug policy advisor has backed the illicit drug policies of Sweden as a model for the U.S.A.
The Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy visited Sweden in 2010 and backed the policies at a meeting with the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna recently.
Sweden’s policy of strong drug education, demand reduction, diversion of addicts into rehabilitation, opposition to medical cannabis and increased drug rehabilitation programs is the best in all Europe.
The United States and Sweden both strongly back the United Nations policy of reducing demand for drugs.
The United States is funding demand reduction programs by over $US10 billion and claims a 46 per cent drop in cocaine use over the last five years.
The United States is working with international allies to disrupt the flow of illicit drugs in the world in line with U.N. policies.

DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL COMMENTS-
This endorsement of Sweden’s highly successful policy is supported by our Council because it has reduced the demand for illicit drugs.
Australia needs to follow the best practices of world leader countries like Sweden and the USA to reduce our high illicit drug use.
The new government in the United Kingdom as well as Scotland has adopted drug policies to reduce demand and the number of drug users.
Effective court supervised early intervention drug rehabilitation that leads to a drug free life would keep Australia up with world’s best practice.
THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-
More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
