DRUG USE INCREASES
The third Victorian Youth Alcohol and Drug Survey showed drug use among youth people had increased since June 2002.
About 12% (one in eight) 16 to 24 year olds reported going to school or work “wasted” on illicit drugs.
The survey showed MORE youths reported using marijuana, amphetamines, ecstasy and tranquillizers.
Half of the young people surveyed had used marijuana.
One in six of the young people had tried amphetamines and ecstasy.
The Victorian Secondary Principals Association said students turning up at school bleary-eyed were a problem with Mondays being the worst.
The drug-affected students are more prevalent in country areas and distracted other students in the class.
