WHY DO PEOPLE GET ADDICTED TO DRUGS?

Testimonies of drug addicts and former drug addicts have disclosed many attitudes and experiences, which have led to them to mind altering drugs.

These have included for the addict -

A lack of love for life and its experiences. An inability to live.

The missing presence of a father or mother in the addict’s life.

A self-centeredness of the addict.

An abundance of freedom from responsibility.

A feeling of being lost.

A wounded trust for father or mother by an addict.

A belief that they were smarter than other addicts – “I’m not like them”.

A spiritual dryness.

A lack of love and affection in the addict’s life.

An abundance of material possessions.

A life full of pride.

A need and wanting of more.

Concern about what others think.

A loss in the true values of life.

A freedom to do what they want and go where they pleased.

A need to be the center of attention.

A habit of telling lies.

A jealousy of those who were successful.

A want to be different.

A need to be appreciated and accepted.

For the family -

Parents who did not take much interest in their children.

Parents concerned about tomorrow instead of today.

Parents who separate themselves from their family through work or their own interests or who do activities separate from their children.
