PRESIDENT BUSH SLAMS DRUG LEGALIZATION

President George W Bush recently installed John P Walters as the new Director of the Office of Drug Control Policy. The following is a summary of Mr. Bush’s remarks at the instalation –

1.    President Bush is committed to stop all illicit drug USE.

2.    He believes the only humane and compassionate response to illicit drug use is a moral refusal to accept it.

3.    He is totally opposed to the legalization of any presently illicit drug.

4.    Drug use and addiction would soar with legalization.

5.    Hospital emergency cases would increase with legalization.

6.    Child abuse would increase with legalization.

7.    The cost of treatment and social welfare would rise with legalization.

8.    There would be more drug related accidents at work and at home with legalization.

9.    Legalized drugs would completely undermine the message that drug use is wrong.

10.           The most effective way to reduce the supply of drugs is to reduce the demand for drugs.

11.           All families, schools, communities and faith based organizations must teach children right from wrong, respect for law, respect for others and respect for themselves.

12.           Children cite parents as the number one reason they don’t use drugs.

13.           Mr. Bush backed a corps of parents against drugs, drug free communities, and drug free work places.

14.           Mr. Bush committed more funds for treatment and research.

15.           He backed coerced abstinance, drug courts and drug teasting for prisoners, probationers and parolees.

16.           He claimed inmates that received drug treatment are 73% less likely to be rearrested and 44% are less likely to use illicit drugs again.
