VICTORY OVER DRUGS

The U.S. Whitehouse Office of National Drug Control Policy recently announced a turning point in the war on illicit drugs.

In the first 6 months of 2007, U.S. cocaine prices has skyrocketed, supply and purity has fallen as a response to a three nation offensive against international drug criminals.

The offensive aimed at transnational drug organizations confiscated drug stocks, disrupted supply, closed down properties, arrested key personnel and seized cash.

The disruption of illicit drug supply has never been this extensive before in U.S. history.

The Drug Advisory Council of Australia Comments

The reduction of supply of illicit drugs is a key strategy in reducing drug use.

However, the reduction of demand for illicit drugs must also go hand in hand for drug policy to be successful.

Australia must learn from governments that have reduced illicit drug use in their countries, that diversion programs into drug detoxification and rehabilitation also play their part in drug policy.

Without a reduction in demand for illicit drugs more pressure in applied to border protection agencies to reduce the supply.

Because Australia has a large number of illicit drug users we need to look to those countries that have been successful in substantially reducing its drug using population.

Lets ditch harm minimization for world’s best practice.

THE DRUG ADVISORY COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA SUPPORTS-

More detoxification & rehabilitation that gets illicit drug users drug free.
Court ordered and supervised detoxification & rehabilitation.
Less illicit drug users, drug pushers and drug related crimes.
